The Thai Union Group has tapped Darian May McBain, PhD, as its new Group Director of Sustainable Development, effective 6 July.
McBain comes to the position with a zeal for engaging key stakeholders as a means to achieve strategic outcomes, as well as a storied background in conceiving and implementing sustainable development projects. Past work experiences saw her engaging with governments, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations across the world. To take her new role with Thai Union Group, McBain stepped down as co-director of a business sustainability consultancy for Blue Sky Green.
Renowned around the academic sector, McBain has spent many years working closely with the University of Sydney, serving as an academic advisor on sustainability for graduate students and co-authoring academic papers and books on sustainable supply chain analysis.
Many at the Thai Union Group see the hiring of McBain as a global, strategic move for the expanding seafood processing company.

Dr. McBain’s international experience and expertise is the perfect fit for that key requirement of our business,” said Thiraphong Chansiri, Global President and CEO of Thai Union Group.

McBain will be reporting directly to Chansiri in her new position. Her academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney; a Master of Science in Business Strategy, Politics and Environment (with Distinction) from the University of London; and Bachelor of Engineering, Environmental (with Honors) from the University of New South Wales.
