HQS launches tilapia-based Alzheimer’s treatment

HQ Sustainable Maritime Industries of Seattle yesterday debuted a line of tilapia-based nutraceutical products, including a unique treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.

The products were launched at the 2009 BIO International Convention at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga. The convention opened on Monday and runs through Thursday, 21 May.

In all, HQS debuted more than 20 different products manufactured from fish byproducts and currently sold in China, whose over-65 population is estimated to exceed 300 million by 2050.

Products also include a line of collagen products made from rich collagen found in the scales and skin of tilapia, which HQS farms in China. The product uses other fish extracts in pill and cream formats to increase subcutaneous, water helping to reduce wrinkles.

The Chinese market for personal health care products, including nutraceutical and marine-bio products, is robust and growing. Currently, 8 percent of China's 1.3 billion people are over 65. By 2050, 24 percent of the population will be over 65.
