SeaBear Company is recalling two of its seafood chowders because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.

The Anacortes, Washington, U.S.A-based company is recalling Smoked Salmon Chowder and Alehouse Clam Chowder and is warning consumers not to use the products, even if they do not look or smell spoiled. No illnesses have been reported so far.

Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension, and constipation may also be common symptoms.

The Smoked Salmon Chowder and Alehouse Clam Chowder were distributed through retail stores in the U.S. states of Alaska, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. Units were also sent to customers via direct home delivery through SeaBears website between 1 October 2024 and 14 March 2025.

SeaBear said it became aware of a pouch seal issue from a customer complaint, and after investigating it further, they identified a mechanical issue with equipment that caused seals to not fully bond and made some pouches leak.

The recalled SeaBear Smokehouse chowder products are packaged in a 12-ounce dark blue pouch.

Consumers who have purchased the Smoked Salmon Chowder or Alehouse Chowder are urged not to consume products and should contact SeaBears customer service team at 1-800-645-3474 or [email protected] for a full refund.
