Trident Seafoods comes up big at Alaska SOS

Trident Seafoods' Sesame Teriyaki Keta Salmon captured the grand prize at the Alaska Symphony of Seafood's Gala Soirée & New Products Contest at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, Alaska, late last week.

The product also took first in the foodservice category, followed by Ocean Beauty Seafoods' Alaskan Lemon Butter Sole Buffet Kit in second and Gerard & Dominique Seafoods' Smoked Scallops in third.

In the retail category, Trident's Naturals Thai Chili Salmon Fillets placed first, trailed by Hartley's NW Seafood's Sweet Apple Salmon on Cedar Plank in second and Shining Ocean's Smart Salmon in third.

In the smoked products category, Solomon Falls-Wild Alaska Smoked Pink Salmon Side from Valdez Fisheries Development Association placed first, followed by Smoked Salmon Sausage-Italian Style with Whiskey from Aqua Cuisine in second and Gerard & Dominique's Smoked Salmon Parfait in third.

Smoked Salmon Sausage-Italian Style with Whiskey also received the Anchorage People's Choice Award.

On 10 February in Seattle, Trident's Naturals Thai Chili Salmon Fillets won the Seattle People's Choice Award.

The first place winners from each category, as well as both People's Choice winners, will receive free booth space at the International Boston Seafood Show in March, as well as free airfare to and from the annual event.

This year's judges included Michael Cisneros from Centerplate catering at Safeco Field; Larry Williams of Orca Bay Seafoods; Omar Field with Ivar's; Executive Chef Jordan Mackey with The Edgewater Hotel; food writer Melissa Trainer; Eric Tanaka from Tom Douglas Restaurants; Keith Harris of Whole Foods Markets-Select Fish; and Ron Steckler with Chang International.
