Increased Norwegian, Icelandic salmon harvests for SalMar

Frøya, Norway-based salmon farming group SalMar saw increases in its overall harvest totals in the final quarter of 2020.

SalMar harvested 43,600 metric tons (MT) of gutted fish in the final quarter of last year, an increase of 3,300 MT.

The group’s largest business segment, Fish Farming Central Norway, produced 20,900 MT of salmon in the three-month period, down from 24,400 MT in Q4 2019, while its Fish Farming Northern Norway sites provided 19,100 MT – up from 13,400 MT.

Iceland Salmon (formerly known as Arnarlax), which is Iceland’s largest producer and processor of farmed salmon, contributed 3,600 MT, which was 1,000 MT more than a year previously.

Previously, SalMar had forecast a total Norwegian salmon harvest of 152,000 MT of salmon in Norway in 2020, increasing to 163,000 MT this year. In Iceland, it had projected a 12,000 MT harvest for 2020 and 14,000 MT for 2021.

SalMar’s full fourth-quarter 2020 results will be published on 25 February.
