More first-quarter Faroese salmon for Bakkafrost, Scottish harvest slips

Bakkafrost Group’s harvest in the first quarter of 2021 increased year-on-year, thanks to harvest increases in its native Faroe Islands.

The volume of salmon harvested by Bakkafrost in the Faroe Islands in the first-quarter increased by 3,300 metric tons (MT) year-on-year, to the equivalent of 14,000 MT head-on gutted (HOG) fish, according to the producer’s latest trading update.

Broken down into production regions, the contribution from the company’s operations in the north of the Faroes amounted to 11,400 MT, up from 6,300 MT in Q1 2020; while its farms in the west supplied 2,500 MT, a decrease from 2,800 MT; and its southern farms provided 100 MT, down from 1,600 MT.

Meanwhile, its Scottish operations achieved a harvest of 7,000 MT, down from 7,300 MT in Q1 2020.

The group’s feed sales for the first-quarter 2021 totaled 23,800 MT, up from 19,100 MT a year previously.
