Hjelmeland, Norway-based Sterling White Halibut has signed a new six-year contract with Aller Aqua for its aquaculture feed supply.
Sterling White Halibut farms halibut at its farm in Ryfylke, Norway, handling the fish from broodstock to roe and larvae to final grow-out. The company is the world’s largest producer of farmed halibut, producing roughly 1,700 metric tons of halibut annually.
Halibut take around four years to grow to an ideal size for harvesting, the company said, and require “a specialized feed that can support the long-term growth and health of the fish.” As a result of the company’s feed needs, it has developed a “close-knit relationship” with Aller Aqua.
The feed provided by Aller Aqua, the company said, is created from a blend of high-quality raw materials to meet the specific nutritional needs of halibut. As a result of the companies’ efforts, Sterling White Halibut has provided its product to “top restaurants, caterers, and retailers” in multiple countries.
Sterling White Halibut CEO Magne Torgersen said Aller Aqua has proven to be a reliable provider of the feed the company needs to be successful and maintain performance and growth metrics.
“Aller Aqua has shown us that they mean it when they say they want to grow together,” Torgersen said. “Their feed quality, but also their input and availability, has been key in our decision, and we therefore have no [qualms] signing a long-term contract. Together we find solutions and our fish have never been better.”
