Taste of BC Aquafarms Inc., a subsidiary of Miami, Florida, U.S.A.-based Blue Star Foods Corp., announced it has selected PR Aqua as its technology provider for a planned 1,500-metric-ton recirculating aquaculture system.

A press release by Blue Star said the company has signed a multi-phase engineering contract with PR Aqua to “provide advanced aquatic solutions for aquaculture” at the planned RAS site. The company said it plans to use PR Aqua’s equipment engineering and facility design on the new project, but did not specify the proposed location of the farm.

“We have worked with PR Aqua for many years, they were the team that helped us build our initial 80-metric-ton steel-head salmon farm and were instrumental as R&D partners to design and implement what has been a very successful first project,” Taste of BC Founder Steve Atkinson said. “We believe their team are some of the best in the business, and are thrilled to continue to work with them as we look to scale our combined technology for our next phase of development for the Second Facility.”

PR Aqua is a British Columbia, Canada-based company that has provided integrated water-treatment and fish-handling solutions for more than 20 years. According to Blue Star, the company has management, engineering, and operations professionals with expertise in designing the kinds of systems that Taste of BC will use at its planned RAS.

Blue Star Foods acquired Taste of BC in June, after first announcing  its plans to acquire the company in January. According to an 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Blue Star planned to acquire all shares possessed by Taste of BC’s owners – Steve and Janet Atkinson – for a purchase price of CAD 4 million (USD 3.2 million, EUR 2.7 million).
