Cermaq Chile has named aquaculture industry veteran Álvaro Poblete as its new production manager.
Cermaq is one of the world's leading salmon and trout farmers, with operations in Norway, Chile, and Canada. It is a fully owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi.
Poblete, who has more than 20 years of experience in the salmon-farming industry, will begin at Cermaq on 4 April, the company said. According to Poblete’s LinkedIn profile, he is currently the general manager of maritime logistics support and services firm Astilleros Jovimar, a position he has held since November 2021. He is also the executive director of Proyecto Pincoy, a collaborative initiative involving Aquagen, Blumar, Centrovet, Cermaq, Pharmaq, Skretting, and Ventisqueros, seeking to contribute to the goal of reducing the use of antibiotics in Chilean salmonid production.
Previously, Poblete worked at Salmones Camanchaca for more than 15 years, including a six-year tenure as the company’s regional manager. Prior to that, between 2000 and 2005, he was the operations manager at Aguas Claras, which is now part of the AquaChile group.
“I am pleased to announce that as of April, Álvaro Poblete, who has extensive knowledge of the industry and production areas, will join our company. His entry will allow us to continue consolidating our solid results and will undoubtedly be a great contribution to the team,” Cermaq Chile’s incoming managing director, Pedro Courard, said in a press release.
The announcement is the latest in a number of managerial moves at Cermaq. In January 2022, the Oslo, Norway-headquartered company named Courard as managing director of its Chilean operations as of 1 March, replacing Steven Rafferty. Rafferty, in turn, will replace the company’s current CEO, Geir Molvik, who announced last October that he is stepping down but will continue with the company in an advisory role.
