Lerøy’s farmed fish, catch volumes fall in Q1

Bergen, Norway-based fish-farming and fishing company Lerøy Seafood Group (LSG) harvested 32,100 metric tons (MT) of gutted-weight farmed salmon and trout in the opening quarter of 2022, representing a year-on-year decrease of 10,000 MT.

According to the LSG’s latest trading update, the volume produced at the Lerøy Aurora sites, located in Troms and Finnmark, fell by 4,100 MT to 4,900 MT in Q1. Additionally, Lerøy Midt’s harvest decreased by 4,700 MT to 11,800 MT, and Lerøy Sjøtroll’s production was down 1,300 MT to 15,400 MT. Lerøy Midt comprises farms in Nordmøre and Trøndelag, while Lerøy Sjøtroll is in Vestlandet.

Some 4,100 MT of the total harvest volume in the three-month period was trout, down 100 MT compared with Q1 2021.

Meanwhile, in LSG’s Wild Catch segment, Havfisk's total catch volume in the last quarter was 25,100 MT, representing a decrease of 600 MT compared with the corresponding period of last year. This total included 10,000 MT of cod, which was 1,100 MT less than a year previously.

LSG’s full first-quarter 2022 results will be published 13 May, 2022.

The group previously advised that its 2022 harvest guidance for its Farming segment in Norway is 185,000 MT. Additionally, it expects its share from associates to be 23,000 MT, which includes the expected volume from Scottish Sea Farms’ new acquisition, Grieg Seafood Hjaltland UK. As such, LSG’s total 2022 harvest volume is estimated to be in the region of 208,000 MT.

For the full-year 2021, LSG’s revenue reached a record NOK 23 billion (USD 2.7 billion, EUR 2.4 billion), while its operating profit in 2021 increased by NOK 69 million (USD 8 million, EUR 7.2 million) to more than NOK 2.5 billion (USD 288.5 million, EUR 259.2 million).
