Madrid, Spain-based technology company Satlink announced the launch of Project ReCon on 14 December, 2022.
The project will pioneer a circular economy program to give second life to devices for sustainable fishing, specifically echosounder buoys utilized in tropical purse-seine tuna fishing, the company said.
Some echosounder buoys used by fleets can end up outside fishing areas at the end of their use, which makes their recovery difficult for fishing companies. Satlink aims to use the buoys' geolocation capability to track them and recover the buoys.
