Canadian shellfish producers are recalling certain Pacific oysters from the marketplace due to a marine biotoxin that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said it is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
“If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings,” the agency said.
The recalled oysters were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
Richmond Bay, British Columbia-based Union Bay Seafood is recalling Pacific oysters, Mica’s Petite Effingham Inlet oysters harvested on 14 July.
In addition, Intercity Packers in Vancouver, British Columbia, recalled Oyster N/ Shell Effingham XSM oysters.
