Norpac Fisheries Export is recalling all its fresh shrimp poke distributed in Hawaii because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A.-based supplier also said in a press release that it has “ceased the production and distribution of the product using this shrimp, as the FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the exact source of the problem.”
No illnesses from the poke have been reported. Norpac became aware of the issue during its routine food safety monitoring procedures, it said.
“As a result of our routine random product and materials testing, we tested the shrimp used to make the shrimp poke, by having a sample sent to an independent lab for analysis. The results were received 25 June, 2020, indicating a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes,” Norpac said.
“We are proceeding under the cautious assumption that all of the shrimp from our supplier is contaminated,” the supplier added.
It is recalling all the fresh shrimp poke it distributed in Safeway stores on The Big Island, Maui, Oahu, and Kauai between 11 May and 25 June.
The poke is distributed pre-mixed in plastic pouches, which are then served at Safeway deli counters in a cup.
