US supplier recalls smoked salmon over potential listeria

Wallkill, New York, U.S.A.-based company Catsmo LLC is recalling several lots of cold smoked salmon because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall of smoked salmon, distributed in 11 states through retail stores and direct delivery, is being made “out of an abundance of caution,” the supplier said in a press release.

The potential for contamination is a result of a routine FDA environmental sampling and analysis, Catsmo said.

“The company has decided to conduct an extensive corrective action plan and verification program so production can resume as soon as possible,” Catsmo said.

The recalled product is sold in four-ounce, eight-ounce, and one-pound vacuum-sealed plastic packages, and includes whole fillets and specialty cuts. Flavors include Nova Sliced Smoked Salmon, Bourbon Pepper Smoked Salmon, Daniel Boulud Sliced Smoked Salmon, and Scottish Whole Smoked Salmon.

The smoked salmon was distributed New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Minnesota, North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, Massachusetts, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
