Vietnamese swai recalled in the US

A U.S. seafood distributor is recalling swai from Vietnam that used the United States Department of Agriculture inspection mark without authorization.

Bell, California-based H&T Seafood Inc. is recalling an undetermined amount of “Fisherman’s Wharf Swai Fillets Product of Vietnam” because it was packed and distributed without the benefit of USDA inspection and used the mark of inspection without authorization, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said in a press release.

The frozen swai fillets, packed in one-pound plastic bags, were shipped to warehouse/distribution centers and retail locations in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and South Carolina.

“The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during surveillance at a retail store,” the agency said.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consuming the products. However, “FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” FSIS said.
