Pacific Seafood’s latest shrimp product innovation aims to “break down barriers”

Oregon-based Pacific Seafood has launched a new line of frozen seasoned shrimp in two flavors: scampi and honey jalapeno.

The products – which were included in SeafoodSource’s “Top 25: Seafood Product Innovation” list –  were inspired by market research suggesting that although some 86 percent of Americans feel comfortable eating seafood, just 28 percent consider themselves to be comfortable when it comes to cooking seafood, Pacific Seafood explained in a press release.

“Today’s consumers are looking to incorporate more seafood in their diet and at Pacific Seafood, we focus on developing products that break down barriers and increase consumption,”
said Lorin Gelfand, Pacific Seafood’s head of innovation. “Lack of confidence in preparing seafood is often cited as a reason consumers don’t buy more seafood and products such as our new seasoned shrimp that help build that confidence.”

The shrimp only need to be cooked for three to five minutes and can be either thawed or cooked from frozen. They can be sautéed, broiled, or grilled, and Pacific suggests serving them as an addition to rice, pasta, stir frys, or salads.

The shrimp come in a 31-40 count serving, and are peeled, deveined, and have the tail removed as well. According to the release, “the shrimp are dry rubbed with the perfect amount of herbs and spices instead of being marinated in a heavy sauce, allowing the quality of the shrimp to shine through and maintain its texture.”

Pacific Seafood Group was founded in 1941 and has remained family-owned and operated since then. Based in Clackamas, Oregon, the company employs 3,000 people across 11 states and 41 facilities. Pacific manages every aspect of the supply chain including harvest, processing, and distribution, and aims to provide the “healthiest protein on the planet.”
