Daley Seafoods makes deal for Les Pêcheries Marinard plant

Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada-based Daley Seafoods has announced a deal for a Les Pêcheries Marinard northern shrimp processing plant in Rivière-au-Renard, Quebec, Canada.

The deal will expand Daley Seafood’s processing capacity in the region, which already included locations in Rivière-au-Renard and Baie-Trinité in Quebec, and Baie Sainte Anne and Pointe Sapin in New Brunswick, Canada. Daley Seafoods produces lobster, shrimp, and snow crab, and in 2018, took over Thai Union's operations in New Brunswick and the U.S. state of Maine.

Daley Seafoods declined to disclose the terms of the deal.

"Our team is very pleased with Marinard and we're excited about the potential of the Rivière-au-Renard community. The management team at the plant has been kind, professional, welcoming – things that we like to build around,” Daley Seafoods Owner Terry Daley said in a release.

The plant, according to Daley Seafoods, has “state-of-the-art facilities” and 150 employees. The company is using the acquisition to expand its presence as “one of the top producers of premium, sustainable shellfish” in both domestic and international markets.

“Our company believes in using industry leading equipment and that was one of the reasons why we see so much potential in Marinard,” Daley said. “The technology at the plant, along with the employees' experience, allows us to hit the ground running. These are skilled and competent people who will help the company grow.”

The acquisition will add cold-water shrimp to Daley Seafood’s product offerings. In addition, Les Pêcheries Marinard touts a number of certifications and accreditations, including one by high-end U.K. retailer Marks and Spencer allowing the company to sell its products in its stores.

“Our management team is genuinely excited to get going – they can't wait to start next year. Our plan is simple: we work hard to be efficient and deliver the highest-quality product,” Daley said. “And we like to enjoy the process of doing so."
