New England Cold Storage picks lead for new facility

Mark Wetmore has been hired to head up New England Cold Storage's new flagship facility in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

Sturbridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based New England Cold Storage (NECS) has announced it has hired Mark Wetmore to head up the company’s new flagship facility.

New England Cold Storage secured financing for a new 120,000-square-foot public refrigerated warehouse for food producers, processors, wholesalers, and importers earlier this year. The new warehouse, located in Sturbridge Industrial Park, was financed via Rockland Trust Company for USD 22.9 million (EUR 20.3 million).

Wetmore joined the company as the vice president of operations, and will oversee the opening and operation of the facility, NECS said in a release announcing the hire.

“Mark is an outstanding addition to our team here at New England Cold Storage,” NECS President Chris Bailey said. “He brings a deep blend of cold storage logistics experience, a team building mind-set, and a tight focus on the steps we are taking to perform for our customers.”

Wetmore has over 30 years of cold-storage warehouse experience, the last 15 of which were spend at Smithfield Foods, where he led the circle of excellence team tasked with improving performance at distribution facilities. Prior to that, he worked with Americold Logistics for 10 years.

“I am excited to join the New England Cold [Storage] team and build on the solid foundation developed over the last couple years,” Wetmore said. “Warehousing has changed so much over my career and, as a new company, we have the agility to mix current technologies with an old school ‘get it done right’ mentality so we can help our food companies streamline their outside storage and distribution strategies.”
