Salmon Evolution solidifies commitment to MMC First Process, teases “several exciting projects” upcoming

Fosnavåg, Norway-based MMC First Process has signed a collaborative agreement with Indre Harøy, Norway-headquartered Salmon Evolution AS that will see the equipment and technology provider continue to work with the land-based salmon farming company through 2028.

MMC First Process will work with Salmon Evolution to build out its handling, processing, and cooling systems at both its land-based Atlantic salmon farm in Indre Harøy and its land-based Atlantic salmon farm under development in South Korea, the result of a partnership with Dongwon Industries.

“The parties want to work together to create the optimal solution for fish logistics at Salmon Evolution's future facilities. MMC First Process has already been selected for the high-tech land-based aquaculture project on Indre Harøy. The company will also be an important partner for the future expansion plans for Salmon Evolution. In addition to land-based farming, aquaculture processing is one of the major focus areas for MMC First Process, and an area we see opportunities to collaborate on,” MMC First Process Chief Sales Officer Frank Edvard Vike said in a press release.

The Indre Harøy facility is scheduled to be completed by 2027 or 2028, at which time it will have an annual capacity of 31,500 metric tons of gutted fish and employ 80 to 90 people, according to Salmon Evolution CEO Håkon Andrè Berg

“MMC First Process delivers the ‘heart’ of our solutions,” Berg said. “Fish logistics and fish welfare are the key to the fish being well and growing as quickly as possible.”

MMC First Process CEO Petter Leon Fauske called Salmon Evolution “an important partner.”

“We have been involved in the project and collaboration on Indre Harøy for several years. The fact that we can think long-term together and have predictability for upcoming deliveries provides great security for the entire organization and our subcontractors. This agreement confirms once again that the region has world-leading expertise in aquaculture, and that we have made the region globally attractive to this industry,” Fauske said.

Fauske said MMC First Process will also be contributing to Salmon Evolution’s South Korean farm and teased “several exciting projects” that he said “are expected to come into place” soon. He said the collaborative arrangement between the two companies is contributing to Norway being recognized as a leader in the global aquaculture industry.

Berg said that, along with a mutual dedication to sustainable practices, MMC First Process and Salmon Evolution share a joint desire to be leaders in the land-based farming movement.

“We are convinced that land-based farming will play an important role in the growth of the global salmon market,” Berg said. “Salmon Evolution, in collaboration with good partners, is in a unique position to become a leader in the development of land-based salmon farming.”
