World’s largest wellboat will use Cflow Fish Handling

Norwegian shipowner Frøy Rederi has decided to use Cflow Fish Handling AS as the fish handling system in what will be the world’s largest wellboat.

The wellboat, according to a release, will be 83.72 meters long and 30.9 meters wide, with a storage capacity of 7,500 cubic meters – the world’s largest storage capacity. Cflow, according to the release, has designed a fish handling system with “maximum fish welfare” in mind.

“A vessel of this size obviously requires a fish handling system that is capable of processing large volumes of fish. I firmly believe that we have the market’s most gentle solutions for pumping, delousing, transport and cooling of fish, and that this has helped us secure this contract,” said Gunnar Hoff, CMO and head of the fishery and aquaculture business areas at Cflow.

Cflow will assemble the fish handling system at its facility in Langevaag, outside Aalesund, Norway, while the wellboat itself is being constructed at the Sefine Shipyard in Turkey. Cflow is a subsidiary of PG Flow Solutions, also based in Norway.

“When we became co-owners of Cflow our intention was to combine the company’s unique fish welfare competence and technology with PG Flow Solutions’ liquid handling and pump competence,” said Steve Paulsen, CEO of the PG Flow Solutions group. “This contract confirms that we are succeeding with this approach, with Cflow as the group’s spearhead towards the aquaculture industry.”

The exact value of the contract was not released by Cflow.

“The size of the contract reflects the size of the vessel and its fish handling system,” Arnstein Johansen, CEO of Cflow, said. “It is easy to understand that this is an important contract to us. This will become an impressive wellboat and we are proud to contribute towards the project.”
