RFC moves headquarters to Vladivostok, announces retail push into China

On the eve of the 2019 China Fisheries and Seafood Expo in Qingdao, China, Russian Fishery Company (RFC) has announced it is moving its management operations to Russia’s Fast East hub of Vladivostok, where most of its operations are based.

RFC’s operational management was previously based in Moscow, more than 9,000 kilometers away from Vladivostok.

RFC CEO Fedor Kirsanov said in a press release the move is aimed at increasing the operational efficiency of the company and centralizing business processes.

“Changing the registration address and relocating the office is a logical decision for a company operating in the Far East,” Kirsanov said. “The seven-hour time difference between the Moscow and Primorye offices complicated the process of interaction and decision-making. Eliminating this gap will serve to increase the efficiency of business management. Now all functions are consolidated in Vladivostok, where the company was born, lives, and will continue to develop.”

The company is one of the largest fishing firms in Russia. It has been an active player in the Russian government’s investment quota program, which offers Russian-based fishing companies additional fishing quota in exchange for building new vessels and processing plants in Russia.

Supplementing its growth in Vladivostok, which already includes the construction of a new pollock plant,  RFC plans to open a crewing center and fleet management center by spring 2020, it said. RFC has also announced it will build 10 super-trawlers to increase its fishing and processing capacity.

“Putting investment objects into operation will significantly increase the volume of quotas of RFC for catching pollock and herring and will lead the company to [a] leading position,” Kirsanov said.

The company said in advance of the opening of the China Fisheries Expo, which runs 31 October to 2 November, that it will initiate a marketing push into China feature its pollock, herring, and crab products.

“China is one of the key markets for the Russian Fishery Company’s pollock for processing and further export,” Kirsanov said. “We want to get Chinese consumer acquainted with single-frozen products from wild white fish. We plan to develop sales of retail products in the Chinese market and are currently selecting a partner for this task.”

RFC subsidiary Russian Crab Group and its partner company Primkrab will be exhibiting independently in Qingdao, offering a wider range of products thanks to its recent wins in national crab quota auctions. The company now offers Kamchatka, opilio, and hairy crab, as well as blue crab, opilio-birdie and isoship, it said in a release.
