USDA awards nearly USD 25 million in contracts to Louisiana shrimpers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded seafood suppliers in the U.S. state of Louisiana nearly USD 25 million (EUR 22 million) worth of wild-catch shrimp contracts under its Section 32 program.

The agency purchased 164,250 cases of domestic peeled and deveined shrimp and shell-on shrimp totaling nearly USD 24.8 million (EUR 21.4 million).

Breaux Bridge, Louisiana-based Ocean Select Seafood earned the highest value contract, nabbing nearly USD 21 million (EUR 18 million) worth of shrimp deliveries.

New Orleans, Louisiana-based Paul Piazza and Son will supply nearly USD 3.3 million (EUR 2.9 million) worth of shrimp, while Lafitte Frozen Foods in Lafitte, Louisiana, will supply 756,000 (EUR 653,000) worth.

This week, the agency also awarded contracts worth nearly USD 15.5 million (EUR 13 million) to suppliers of Pacific rockfish, whiting, and shrimp. Clackamas, Oregon, U.S.A.-based Dulcich Inc., the owner of Pacific Seafood, was awarded the majority of the contract, supplying around USD 15.2 million (EUR 13 million) worth of rockfish, whiting, and shrimp.

The USDA said it could not award nearly 1.3 million pounds of shrimp contracts due to Section 32 price considerations.

The wild shrimp deliveries will be made from January through March 2022.
