Chinese seafood prices are at a seven-year high, according to data on the first quarter of the year collated by the country’s Agriculture Ministry.
Indexes of food prices compiled by the ministry – which also oversees aquaculture and fishing – show that the index for seafood rose by 2.85 points year on year, to 108.9 for the first quarter.
This is the highest the index has been since 2010 according to the ministry – this while prices for meats have dropped. The indexes for red meat and chicken fell by 4.82 and 23.02, respectively.
