The 2012 International Boston Seafood Show/Seafood Processing America is only three weeks away, and event producer Diversified Business Communications is reporting that this year’s three-day event will the biggest ever in its 30-plus year history, with the amount of exhibit space up more than 6 percent from 2011.
This year’s show will be held from 11 to 13 March at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. There are more than 945 companies exhibiting, representing 42 countries.
China, Chile, Ecuador, India, Scotland and Vietnam are among the countries that have expanded their presence at this year’s show, and the event’s growing international presence is a big reason why the show is growing in general.
“The majority of growth for the 2012 event is attributed to international participation, both in the number of countries represented as well as returning country pavilions increasing their booth size,” said Mary Larkin, Diversified’s VP of seafood expositions. “Combine the statistic that 86 percent of the seafood consumed by the United States is imported with the strengthening of the U.S. economy, it is logical that companies would have a strategic interest in the North American market.”
The United States has also expanded its presence at this year’s show, most notably Alaska, Maine and Mississippi.
Brazil, Estonia, Turkey, Israel, Morocco, Japan and Papa New Guinea are also exhibiting at this year’s show.
