NaturalShrimp on track for first harvest by end of year

NaturalShrimp is anticipating the first batch of Pacific white shrimp raised using its patented process in its indoors facility in Lacoste, Texas, U.S.A will be ready for harvest by the end of 2019.

NaturalShrimp and F&T Water Solutions jointly developed an eletrocoagulation cleaning system that kills all harmful bacteria and organisms – including vibrio – in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

The process is being used by NaturalShrimp at its 65,000-gallon saltwater tanks in its Texas facility.

“NaturalShrimp continues to maintain the shrimp it stocked last July, mainly to have fully grown shrimp for sampling to interested parties. NaturalShrimp is currently stocking shrimp on a monthly basis until necessary equipment is in place,” the company said in a 14 May press release. “It will then stock two lots of shrimp per month until its current facility is full, anticipated to be by the end of the year. The company will then begin harvesting, with details made public at that time and the company will be in full production, selling shrimp to increase revenues.”

The company declined to provide more information to SeafoodSource. In a previous press release, the company said it had received two shrimp water treatment systems in April, which CEO Bill G. Williams said would speed up its production calendar.

“There is a huge consumer demand for our product,” Williams said. “This expansion will allow NaturalShrimp to significantly increase the amount of fresh shrimp we can produce.”

Williams said the company eventually hopes to expand its facilities and potentially move into other species, including lobster, mollusks, salmon, or barramundi.
