The Russian Fishery Company announced it has started production on 250-gram fish finger packets intended for the domestic market.
RFC CEO Fyodor Kirsanov said production is taking place at the Espersen Group’s facility in Velikiy Novgorod, Russia, south of St. Petersburg, and will be marketed under RFC’s Nordeco brand.
“We are going to re-introduce such a product as fish fingers to the Russian consumer,” Kirsanov said. “We offer the market new products of the highest quality – [including] a frozen-at-sea Alaska Pollock fillet, which preserves the healthy elements and the pure taste of this fish.”
The fish fingers will hit shelves in Russian supermarkets before the end of the year, Kirsanov said.
The same Espersen processing facility will also soon begin production of 400-gram portioned Alaska pollock fillets, as well as 450-gram packages of minced Alaska pollock meat. Both products will be marketed as “ready-to-cook” and will also be sold under the “Nordeco” brand. RFC expects production of these products to total 5,000 to 6,000 metric tons in gross weight.
The Espersen Group has already been producing one-kilogram Alaska pollock fillets and mincemeat directly on fishing trawlers.
In October, RFC announced a joint venture with the Agama Group to produce ready-to-eat Alaska pollock products for the domestic market under the “Agama-Nordeco” brand.
