The past year has seen a surprising improvement in coordination between China’s Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), the Ocean and Fisheries Bureau and the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

Examples of the better coordination include the printing of a black list by the Ocean and Fisheries Bureau featuring companies whose produce failed AQSIQ inspection due to excessive residues of antibiotics.

China’s fight against food safety has traditionally been compromised by a complete lack of coordination among the various authorities charged with detecting and prosecuting contamination of seafood.
