BAP certification for Multiexport facility

Chile’s Multiexport Foods on Friday announced that it is the world’s first salmon-farming company to achieve the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices certification for its salmon-processing facility.

“We are very proud of this achievement. It is a testimonial to the commitment we have as an organization to practice responsible aquaculture. Our industry and our company are a key part of the solution to feed the world today and tomorrow in a sustainable way,” said Andres Lyon, CEO of Multiexport Foods, a vertically integrated salmon-farming company based in Puerto Montt, Chile.

The BAP farmed salmon standards were finalized in June, a process that took more than two years.

Last month, Mainstream Canada’s Brent Island farm near Campbell River, British Columbia, became the world’s first salmon farm to be BAP certified. And earlier this month, Skuna Bay Salmon, a British Columbia operation run by Grieg Seafood, became BAP certified, the world’s first salmon producer to be sourcing its fish from multiple farms that have achieved BAP certification.
