GAA’s Susan Chamberlain passes away

Susan Chamberlain — the wife of Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) founder and president Dr. George Chamberlin and an integral part of the organization’s growth — has passed away, GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens announced in an e-mail on Monday.

“It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the passing this weekend of George’s wife, Susan,” said Stevens. “She and George were together at his mother’s home in [Washington] D.C. when we learned of her sudden and untimely death.”

George and Susan reside in St. Louis, where arrangements will be made for Susan’s funeral.

Susan managed the GAA office in St. Louis, helped organize the GAA’s annual GOAL meeting and spearheaded the evolution of the Global Aquaculture Advocate from newsletter to magazine and online publication.

“The aquaculture world and the seafood community as a whole has lost a true advocate, whose work ethic and devotion to family were both reflected in her commitment to feeding the world through responsible aquaculture. Susan will be missed,” said John Connelly, president of the National Fisheries Institute.
