Scottish Sea Farms on Thursday announced it will add a third aquaculture site at Loch Kishorn.
The investment will be in excess of GBP 2 million (USD 3 million, EUR 2.3 million), with most of the funds going to Scottish based suppliers within the next year. The expansion will create four jobs to the existing eight employees in the area.
The site will become fully operational in 2014 with the first salmon harvest the following year. The farm will produce about 2,200 tons of salmon.
“This is a really positive development for the Loch Kishorn area and the industry as a whole,” said Jim Gallagher, Scottish Sea Farms managing director. “Our existing Southshore site has been in existence for almost 30 years and is one of the most sustainably successful farming locations across the west coast of Scotland. In 2008 both of our Kishorn sites won the Crown Estate Aquaculture Award for Farm of the Year. So there is a long track record of responsible aquaculture management within the area.”
