Tytlandsvik Aqua, which is owned by Grieg Seafood Rogaland, Bremnes Seashore, and Vest Havbruk in three equal parts, has acquired Fister Smolt.

Fister Smolt is a main supplier of live fish to Tytlandsvik Aqua, which operates a post-smolt facility in Norway. Grieg said the two companies have been collaborating for some time, and the integration of Fister Smolt into Tytlandsvik will not bring any changes to that relationship.

“This acquisition is in line with Grieg Seafood’s post-smolt strategy; it makes it possible to increase the optimization of production and operations, with associated cost efficiency,” Grieg Seafood CEO Nina Willumsen Grieg said in a release.

Grieg confirmed in 2025 that Tytlansvik will be expanding its post-smolt facility, with construction on halls 5 and 6 of the facility scheduled to start in March 2026 with the goal of having the first smolt installations in Hall 5 by August 2027 and Hall 6 by September 2028.

“Tytlandsvik has long worked with a goal of completing the facility with six halls. The increase in capacity is important for the further work with post-smolt in the region. We are looking forward to continuing the good collaboration with Grieg Seafood and Bremnes Seashore,” Tytlandsvik Aqua General Manager Nils Viga said at the time.

Grieg confirmed in the update about Tytlandsvik’s purchase of Fister Smolt that the planned expansion is still scheduled for March, and that when completed, the facility will have a post-smolt capacity of around 9,000 metric tons per year.

Grieg has prioritized a post-smolt strategy in recent years, and to that end, it has engaged in joint ventures with land-based post-smolt companies to expand its use.

Grieg reported a Q4 2025 harvest of 7,400 gutted-weight tons of Atlantic salmon from its operations in the Rogaland region of Norway. The company sold its Canadian and Finnmark operations to Cermaq in 2025 and reduced staffing across sales and shared service functions by 55 percent in Q3 2025.
