US firm recalls herring on listeria contamination

New York-based Gold Star Smoked Fish Corp. has recalled its Rybacka Wies Brand Herring Fillets in Oil “Matijes Sledz w oleju” due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled product is packaged in 17.64-ounce/500 grams plastic containers and has an expiration date of 31 October 2013. The UPC number is 021 143241228. The product was sold nationwide.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the product. It is a product of the U.S.
