World Seafood Congress coming to D.C.

The 2011 World Seafood Congress will be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. , from 1 to 6 October.

The biannual event is organized by the International Association of Seafood Professionals, a 12-year-old organization established to promote quality, safe seafood through sharing information, fostering dialog and encourage research. This year’s event is being held in cooperation with the National Fisheries Institute (NFI).

“We are excited about bringing the international seafood industry to the nation’s capitol to work on these global issues,” said NFI President John Connelly. “We also believe that this is an excellent opportunity for U.S companies to be part of the dialogue with international leaders and developing nations.”

The theme of this year’s World Seafood Congress is “Seafood + Trade = Health + Jobs.”

Conference highlights include workshops on the updated FDA Hazard Guide Revisions, HAACP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and FDA Perspective on Sensorial Issues in Seafood. Plenary sessions will focus on the subjects of trade, cold chain, food safety and inspection, economics and marketing, and lessons learned from major disasters.
