Rubio’s Restaurants welcomed back its Langostino Lobster Taco and Burrito on Wednesday.
The Southern California-based fast-casual chain is featuring the seasonal dish at all of its 200-plus locations through the end of the year.
The taco and burrito include wild-caught langostino lobster seasoned and grilled-to-order with fresh guacamole, salsa fresca and chipotle picante sauce. The burrito also has rice and pinto beanssm, while the taco has red and green cabbage and a cilantro-onion blend.
“A crowd favorite for more than 10 years, we are excited Langostino Lobster is returning to our menu,” said Ralph Rubio, Rubio’s founder. “The memorable flavors of Rubio’s seasonal Langostino Lobster Tacos and Burritos reflect our commitment to providing intriguing, authentic seafood options at affordable prices. Our food is our hero and the Langostino Lobster dishes are another way we invite our guests to treat themselves throughout the holiday season.”?
Though a customer favorite, the menu item has sparked a bit of controversy over the years. In June 2006, Rubio’s settled a class-action lawsuit in which it was accused of misleading customers by menuing langostino as lobster. As part of the settlement, the chain offered a one-time coupon worth USD 3 off a USD 10 purchase at any company-owned California location.
Rubio’s admitted no wrongdoing in the case. The suit was filed by Los Angeles attorney Ray Gallo on behalf of California consumer Marie Meier.
