Togo’s offers tuna sandwich for Lent

Add Togo’s Eateries to the list of U.S. quick-service and fast-casual chains capitalizing on Lent.

The San Jose, Calif.-based sandwich chain, which operates 242 franchised locations across the West Coast, has re-introduced its popular Lemon Pepper Tuna sandwich.

Re-appearing on the menu on Wednesday, the sandwich is available through April 27 and cost USD 4.99 (EUR 3.69).

The tuna sandwich is made with 100 percent albacore tuna and seasoned with lemon, cracked black pepper, celery and red onion and served on Togo’s new San Francisco sourdough bread.

The chain brought back the menu item due to “overwhelming” requests from customers looking for red-meat alternatives during Lent.

“Our Lemon Pepper Tuna continues to be popular with guests and franchisees alike when we bring it back each year,” said Renae Scott, Togo’s VP of branding and marketing.

Wendy’s and Long John Silver’s are among the quick-service chains promoting gourmet-style fish sandwiches and breaded fish fillets this Lenten season.
