Trout-tasting event touts health, aquaculture

“Trout Against Obesity” and “Trout for Health and Flavor” are among the themes of Saturday’s Trout Tasting Day in Brihuega, nestled in central Spain about 60 kilometers from Madrid.

Expected to attract about 2,000 people, the event features trout from Spain’s Alcarria region. This is the second such event organized by trout producer Naturix Iniciativas.

The event is funded by the European Commission, Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Rural and Marine Affairs, Fund for the Regulation and Market Organization of Fishery and Aquaculture, Organization of Fish Farmers and Brihuega City Hall.

“Trout cultivation that is carried out well and with strict traceability gives better results,” said Mahmoud Lahlou, commercial director of Naturix. “We want to emphasize that ecological rainbow trout surpasses all those barriers as it is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 with good firmness, texture and with minimum quantity of fat. Organic and sustainable trout are low in percentage fat content and the trout we supply is unlike that produced by other fish farms, which surpass 40 percent fat content.

“We aim to make people aware of this, to bring our products to light, and above all to familiarize people with aquaculture, as this is the only supply strategy we can adopt with so much hunger in the world, since neither the rivers nor the seas are going to provide us with any more,” added Lahlou.

The tasting will include Smoked Trout with Fresh Cream and Alcarria Honey; Trout Tartlets with Tropical Salad, Tangerine and Pineapple; Trout Patty with Bonito Tuna and Cockles; Crunchy Trout Foam Wafers with Trout Caviar; Mini Trout Burgers; and Spanish Omelet with Smoked Trout and Fresh Cheese.
