Rosh Haayin, Israel-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) company AquaMaof announced it has hired John F. Taylor to serve under the company’s chief technology officer as it expands its research and development and technology capabilities.
Taylor, an expert in salmonid biology, has over 20 years of experience in both academia and the aquaculture industry. His most recent stint was at the University of Stirling, where he has been a senior lecturer in salmonid biology since 2016.
"We are delighted to welcome Dr. John F. Taylor to AquaMaof, in what is a very important professional addition both to the company’s team and to the world of RAS,” AquaMaof CEO David Hazut said.
AquaMaof said it plans to leverage Taylor’s expertise in salmon as it expands its research and development, as well as having him lead and assist development of “optimally-designed land-based RAS facilities.”
Taylor’s past work includes research into the impacts of RAS technology on salmonid development and smolt robustness, the improvement of commercialization of triploid salmon, and more. He also holds a patent for a composition comprising phosphorous that helps prevent deformities in triploid fish.
“Dr. Taylor is a very distinguished academic, with vast knowledge and experience in aquaculture,” Hazut said. “His in-depth expertise in salmonoid biology is a significant asset that will serve to augment the company's R&D and technology capabilities in salmon and other areas, strengthening AquaMaof’s ability to provide the optimal solution and support to our customers."
AquaMaof recently signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries and the non-profit organization National Association of Industrial Aquaculture Enterprises, with AquaMaof agreeing to provide support on RAS systems in Russia. The company also signed two contracts for a Russian investment company in June, and already had more than USD 230 million (EUR 197 million) in business booked over two years ago.
