Fredrikstad Seafoods and BioMar extend RAS feed agreement

BioMar announced on 18 December that BioMar Norway and Fredrikstad Seafoods have extended a long-term recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) feed agreement for three more years.

The two companies, according to a press release from BioMar, have already been working together, and have “been collaborating closely” to create a feed recipe for Fredrikstad Seafood’s RAS facility in Fredrikstad. Fredrikstad Seafoods started production at the facility in 2019, supplying salmon to European and Norwegian markets.

"We have worked closely with BioMar for several years now and have achieved satisfactory results. Therefore, it makes sense to continue the good cooperation going forward," Fredrikstad Seafoods CEO Roger Fredriksen said.

Fredrikstad Seafoods is a subsidiary of Nordic Aquafarms AS, which has a yellowtail kingfish RAS facility in Denmark and is developing two Atlantic salmon RAS facilities in the U.S. – one in Belfast, Maine and the other in Humboldt County, California.

The Maine-based project was recently granted state-level permits, and the company has also submitted its last permit application for the California-based project.

"We are very pleased that Fredrikstad Seafoods wants to extend the agreement, and look forward to continuing our cooperation," BioMar Norway BioFarm Manager Oda Skognes Høyland said. "Our strong focus at BioMar continues to be on the development of innovative and sustainable feed solutions, and together with Fredrikstad Seafoods, we will keep moving this exciting project within the RAS segment forward."
