Bellevue, Washington, U.S.A.-based Peter Pan Seafood won the majority of a U.S. government contract to supply more than USD 20 million (EUR 19 million) worth of canned red salmon.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded a total of USD 20.2 million (EUR 19 million) or 152,000 cases of domestic salmon contracts for its child nutrition and other related domestic food assistance programs for fiscal-year 2022.
Peter Pan will supply around USD 19 million (EUR 18 million) worth of salmon, while Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based OBI Seafoods will supply around USD 1.2 million (EUR 1.1 million) of canned red salmon.
USDA has stepped up its purchases of Alaska salmon, pollock, and other seafood this year.
Seattle, Washington-based Trident Seafoods nabbed the majority of a USD 7.2 million (EUR 6.8 million) contract to supply canned pink salmon and salmon fillets in May, while OBI Seafoods earned around USD 642,000 (EUR 608,000) of the total USD 7.9 million (EUR 7.5 million) contract award.
Trident also won the majority of a contract worth nearly USD 10 million (EUR 9.6 million) to supply Alaska pollock to the USDA in May.
The USDA awarded USD 9.96 milion (EUR 9.6 million) – 3.2 milion pounds worth – of pollock contracts in total. Trident’s share was USD 9.69 milion (EUR 9.3 million), while Seattle-based American Seafoods will supply USD 274,000 (EUR 262,000) worth of bulk Alaska pollock.
The average delivered price of USD 3.65 (EUR 3.50) per pound for Alaska pollock fish sticks is the highest delivered price ever for the product, Genuine Association of Alaska Pollock Producers CEO Craig Morris told SeafoodSource in May.
