Frøya Municipality, Norway-headquartered salmon farmer SalMar ASA harvested 36,600 metric tons (MT) of head-on gutted (HOG) salmon in Q2 2021, with reduced volumes coming from its Norwegian operations, according to the producer’s latest trading update.
Regionally, Fish Farming Central Norway, the group’s largest business segment, harvested a total of 21,000 MT of salmon in the last quarter, some 6,200 MT less than in Q2 2020. Fish Farming Northern Norway harvested around 13,300 MT of salmon in the first three months of this year, which was 1,300 MT more than a year previously.
Subsidiary Icelandic Salmon harvested 2,300 MT in the quarter, which was 600 MT more than in the corresponding period of last year.

Fish Farming Central Norway harvested 20,800 MT of salmon in Q1 2021, while Fish Farming Northern Norway supplied 13,500 MT. Icelandic Salmon produced 2,500 MT.
Overall, SalMar has forecast a 2021 salmon harvest of 163,000 MT in Norway and 14,000 MT in Iceland. It also co-owns Scottish Sea Farms.
It completed a private placement of 4.5 million new shares in June, raising approximately NOK 2.7 billion (USD 325.6 million, EUR 267.5 million) for the purchase of salmon production licenses and company acquisitions, as well as investments in smolt production, coastal farming operations, harvesting, and processing activities, the company said.
