Exports under fire
The competitive atmosphere surrounding China and one of its biggest shrimping destinations has seen a bump in recent years, or so says a document circulating among Chinese seafood firms sent from the desk of the Zhanjiang office of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).
Not only are China’s neighbors developing more sophisticated aquaculture technologies and lowering their production costs, but China’s own “export situation is not optimistic,” according to AQSIQ. “In the first six months of this year foreign market orders plummeted, prices are low … and continue to decline … there’s been a further rise of trade protectionism, an endless stream of foreign technical barriers to trade,” the document states.
The trouble is not limited to Zhanjiang, either. Explore China’s current seafood export dilemma in depth here: http://www.seafoodsource.com/news/supply-trade/china-s-exports-of-this-seafood-taking-hits
