Isola, Mississippi, U.S.A.-based Consolidated Catfish Producers was the sole winner of a USD 848,160 (EUR 734,955) contract awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Under the 21 May award, Consolidated Catfish will supply a total of 192,000 pounds of breaded and unbreaded catfish products. The government agreed to purchase 152,000 pounds of unbreaded, raw catfish fillets at a price of USD 4.08 (EUR 3.53) per pound for a total buy of USD 620,160 (EUR 537,386), as well as 40,000 pounds of over-ready breaded catfish strips at a price of USD 5.70 (EUR 4.93) per pound for a total buy of USD 228,000 (EUR 197,582).

The catfish will be used for school lunches and other federal domestic food distribution programs. Deliveries are scheduled to take place anytime between 1 July and 30 November.

The award comes roughly a year after Consolidated Catfish was announced the sole winner of another USDA contract, with the government buying 230,000 pounds of catfish for USD 988,000 (EUR 884,000).

It also comes just a month after it was the only seafood firm named to the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (National COSH)’s 2026 Dirty Dozen report.

The firm was added to the list “due to a pattern of serious workplace safety concerns documented over multiple years,” National COSH Executive Director Jessica Martinez told SeafoodSource in April.
