12_fish.pngKuterra, Canada (Land-Based Aquaculture) – Kuterra produces land-raised salmon that meet high standards, including those set by Sea Choice, Seafood Watch and Ocean Wise. Since the arrival of its first salmon in 2013, the company raises fish without the use of antibiotics, pesticides or hormones. Furthermore, Kuterra salmon has no contact with the marine environment.

 

 

 

10_fish.pngLoveWild Fish, Colorado (Wild Capture, Supply Chain Innovation) – This company is always thinking about the triple bottom line, and has developed products that feature sustainable tracking methods, that put forth a low carbon footprint. The company is a strong advocate for sustainable fish, and keeps tabs on its product progress by looking to the standards set by the Marine Stewardship Council and the Global Aquaculture Alliance for Best Aquaculture Practices. Among the species featured on the LoveWild menu are mahi mahi, red trout and rockfish, with barramundi, catfish and lingcod coming soon.

 

 

15_Fish.pngPelagic Data Systems, California (Traceability) – This technology developer has created a Light Vessel Monitoring System that features “low-cost, rugged sensors that can monitor fleet location, activity, storage temperature and catch methods.” The company was founded in 2014, and is based in San Francisco, California. Pelagic Data Systems' primary aim is to “help fishermen earn a better living, while reducing the amount of seafood that goes to waste and minimizing the environmental impact of fishing.”
