Meet this year's innovative Fish 2.0 finalists

16_Fish.pngQuixotic Farming Sustainable Tilapia, Missouri (Land-Based Aquaculture)— Quixotic Farming recently (in June) hosted an open house for the community of Chillicothe, Missouri, where it started building its new fish farm within a renovated WalMart building in March 2014. The company farms tilapia, and runs a nursery located in Trenton, Missouri. Once the fish reach mature size, they are sent to a processing facility in Colorado. The flagship farm for the company is located in Colorado in the Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi), “a state penitentiary that operates several voluntary work programs to help teach inmates job skills and reduce recidivism rates in the state.”

 

17_Fish.pngShellcatch, California and Chile (Traceability) – Shellcatch is working to “create a world with a healthy ocean and profitable commercial supply chain where fishers play a dominant role and consumers can enjoy technologically verified seafood.” The company works with more than 15 fishing communities located in three countries; its partner and client list features National Geographic, Pro Chile, Smart Fish and Celeta Hurio. Working amongst the supply chain, Shellcatch helps fishers to access mobile technologies.

 

 

9_Fish.pngTRUfish, North Carolina (Traceability) – TRUfish is all about meshing science and intelligence as a means to validate legally and ethically-caught seafood. The company works with retailers, foodservice members and suppliers, and is always in search of comprehensive methods that can eliminate seafood fraud. The company has created TRUfish Testing, which aligns with INSCATECH to “create a one-of-a-kind, all-encompassing seafood fraud prevention program.”

 

 

11_fish.pngVillage Fishmonger, New York (Wild Capture, Supply Chain Innovation) – This sustainable seafood company is based out of New York City and provides local and responsibly-harvested seafood. Village Fishmonger is the creator of Sustainable Seafood Week NYC, and is the operator of a community supported fishery.
