In an effort to create a diverse and sustainable shellfish business, Scotland’s Moray Seafoods has appointed Vaughan Tyson as its first-ever shellfish business manager.
Tyson previously served as general manager of crab processor Burgona and brings considerable expertise to Moray. He will play a crucial role in spearheading the company’s plans to broaden its scope and develop a wide portfolio of premium shellfish products to its core langoustine business.
One of Tyson’s key tasks is to build upon the existing supply base that Moray has developed. In particular, he will be looking to forge new partnership arrangements with fishermen that will develop the market for premium crab and help provide a sustainable and profitable future for the sector.
“I am delighted to be joining Moray Seafoods at this tremendously exciting time for the company and my initial focus will be on further developing the company’s crab business. The range and quality of shellfish found around the Scottish coastline is second to none and I believe there are huge opportunities to expand the company’s offering of premium shellfish products for the UK and international markets,” said Tyson. “An important element of my new role will be to further develop partnerships with our supply base, which we anticipate will bring real benefits to our valued fishing communities around the coast.”
