Although Vietnam has experienced a good first half of shrimp production in 2018, it is unlikely that this positive trend will be sustained in the second half of 2018.
In June, ShrimpTails reported that shrimp farmers in Vietnam were expected to harvest most of their crop by the end of June and into July. Although some farmers kept shrimp in their ponds a bit longer to wait for price recovery, by mid-July, most farmers had indeed already harvested. Normally, farmers would immediately stock the next crop to benefit from high demand towards the end of the year. However, with farmers still unable to make a decent profit due to the somewhat disappointing price recovery, most farmers delayed stocking their ponds or only stocked conservatively.
