Norway exported snow crab worth NOK 55 million (USD 6.7 million, EUR 5.9 million) last month, an increase of 171 percent compared to May 2015.
In the first five months of 2016, the country’s snow crab exports achieved a total value of NOK 172 million (USD 21 million, EUR 18.5 million), up 200 percent year-on-year. In volume terms, these exports amounted to 2,068 metric tons (MT), compared to just 968 MT in the first five months of last year.
The United States and Japan have been the biggest markets for the crustaceans this year.
Meanwhile, Norway’s herring exports last month totaled NOK 92 million (USD 11.3 million, EUR 9.9 million), an increase of 13 percent or NOK 10 million (USD 1.2 million, EUR 1.1 million), compared with May 2015. For the year-to-date, herring exports have totaled NOK 1.1 billion (USD 134.5 million, EUR 118.4 million), an increase of 62 percent or NOK 405 million (USD 49.5 million, EUR 43.6 million) year-on-year.
Poland and Germany have been the biggest markets for Norwegian herring.
Norway also exported NOK 143 million (USD 17.5 million, EUR 15.4 million) worth of mackerel in May, an increase of 109 percent or NOK 75 million (USD 9.2 million, EUR 8.1 million). For the January through May period, its mackerel exports were also worth NOK 1.1 billion, which represented an increase of 55 percent or NOK 382 million (USD 46.7 million, EUR 41.1 million) year-on-year.
Japan and South Korea have been the largest export markets for Norwegian mackerel in 2016.
