China adopts new aquaculture technology

China will implement Mobile Aerating Aerobic Detoxifying Technology this month to increase the growth rate and reduce the breeding time of various fish in certain aquaculture-heavy regions of southeastern China, according to a report released by the China’s Ministry of Agriculture.

China will cooperate with an unnamed California company on the new technology, which will be implemented at more than 100 acres of perch and bass farms across the country.

The technology, which will be used for the first time in China’s Zhejiang province, eases environmental pollution and save billions of metric tons of water annually. Through aerobic technology, oxygen increases in the water, and the process improves the circulation of the oxygenated water.

The technology reduces ammonia and nitrogen levels in each pond, making full use of its natural resources. It also prevents certain types of diseases from occurring in fish species, thus creating the highest profit yields for farmers.

In the past year, China has worked toward implementing more sustainable aquaculture practices but continues to battle disease outbreaks and safety-inspection problems that hinder its development.
