Marine Harvest’s 1Q production jumps

Marine Harvest ASA on Thursday announced that it produced approximately 76,000 metric tons of H&G salmon worldwide in the first quarter of 2011, up 3,000 metric tons from the fourth quarter of 2010 as well as the first quarter of 2010.

At 48,000 metric tons, Norway led the way, followed by Canada and Scotland at 10,000 metric tons apiece.

Chile yielded 4,000 metric tons in the first quarter of 2011, up 3,000 metric tons from the first quarter of 2010, as the country continues to rebound from the infectious salmon anemia outbreak.

The world’s largest farmed salmon producer also reported an operational EBIT of approximately NOK 960 million (USD 175.5 million, EUR 122 million) in the first quarter of 2011, up from NOK 608 million in the first quarter of 2010. Operational EBIT per kilogram of fish for Marine Harvest Norway reached NOK 13.40, up from NOK 8.50 in the first quarter of 2010.

The Norwegian company will release its first-quarter results on 11 May.
