Bergen, Norway-headquartered salmon-farming firm Mowi harvested approximately 166,000 gutted weight tons (GWT) of Atlantic salmon in the third quarter of this year, which was around 5,000 GWT more than in the corresponding period of 2024 and an all-time record for the reporting period.

According to the group’s latest trading update, in Q3 2025, the firm’s Farming Norway region harvested 99,500 GWT, which was down from 106,000 GWT in Q3 2024; Farming Chile harvested 22,500 GWT, which was up from 23,000 GWT; Farming Scotland harvested 17,500 GWT, which was up from 15,000 GWT; Farming Canada harvested 15,500 GWT, which was up from 7,000 GWT; Farming Iceland, which conducts business as Arctic Fish, harvested 5,500 GWT, which was up from 3,500 GWT; Farming Ireland accounted for 3,000 GWT, which was down from 3,500 GWT; and Farming Faroes was responsible for 2,500 GWT of production, which was down from 3,000 GWT.

Within the period, Mowi’s salmon of Norwegian origin achieved an operational EBIT per kilogram of EUR 1.10 (USD 1.28), which was down from EUR 1.40 (USD 1.63) in Q3 2024. The operational EBITs for salmon of Chilean, Canadian, Irish, Faroese, and Icelandic origin also all decreased year over year, while the operational EBIT for salmon of Scottish origin increased to EUR 1.55 (USD 1.80) per kilogram.

Mowi’s update also estimated the group’s EBIT as a whole for the three-month period to be approximately EUR 112 million (USD 130.2 million), representing a decrease of around EUR 61 million (USD 70.9 million) on the corresponding period of 2024 when the firm reported EBIT of EUR 173 million (USD 201.1 million).

The quarter represented a continuation of trends seen throughout 2025. In Q2, the group also recorded a record harvest but lower year-over-year profits.

Mowi’s complete Q3 2025 report will be released on 5 November.

Elsewhere, Frøya, Norway-headquartered salmon-farming firm SalMar reported a salmon harvest of 93,200 GWT in Q3, representing a rise of 32,900 GWT compared with Q3 2024 production.

This latest volume total comprised 47,000 GWT from its Farming Central Norway segment, 42,500 GWT from Farming Northern Norway, and 3,800 MT from Icelandic Salmon. No harvest was recorded for SalMar Ocean.

In the corresponding period of last year, Farming Central Norway recorded 38,200 GWT, Farming Northern Norway brought in 18,300 GWT, SalMar Aker Ocean – 2,100 GWT, and Icelandic Salmon harvested 1,800 GWT.

The preliminary results align with predictions the firm laid out when it released its Q2 2025 report – an “unsatisfactory” period that nonetheless came with “several good signals” for Q3, SalMar CEO Frode Arntsen said at the time.

“We had a record high number of fish and biomass in the sea at the end of Q2, which will give increased volume in the second half of the year. Also, the superior share is back to normal levels from the third quarter. At the same time, we also see that the cost level is decreasing, which will become apparent later in the second half of the year,” Arntsen said.

SalMar’s full Q3 2025 report will be available on 6 November.
